Basis Weight. This is the paper's weight in grams per square meter (gsm) or pounds per 1,000 square feet. Kraft paper's basis weight ranges from 40 to over 300 gsm, depending on its use.

Chemical Composition. Kraft pulp has more lignin than other pulps. Lignin strengthens paper but gives it a natural brown colour unless bleached.
